PORT OF LOS ANGELES RELEASES RECIRCULATED DRAFT SUPPLEMENTAL ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT REPORT FOR THE BERTHS 97-109 [CHINA SHIPPING] CONTAINER TERMINAL PROJECT
Public Meeting to be held Oct. 25; Comment and Review Period Ends Nov. 13
SAN PEDRO, Calif. – September 28, 2018 - The Port of Los Angeles has released a Recirculated Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Report (Draft SEIR) for the Berths 97-109 [China Shipping] Container Terminal Project located in San Pedro.
As required under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), this Recirculated Draft SEIR is a complete recirculation of the Draft SEIR released on June 16, 2017, with significant added material, including the evaluation of the operation of the terminal from 2008 to 2014 under the set of mitigation measures approved in the certified 2008 Final Environmental Impact Report (FEIR), to the extent those were implemented, and the terminal’s continued operation in the future under new and/or modified mitigation measures, along with an incrementally higher cargo throughput level compared to that assumed in the 2008 FEIR. The analysis examines whether potentially new significant environmental impacts or substantially more severe impacts would occur in the areas of air quality, greenhouse gases, and ground transportation.
The 45-day public comment and review period for the Recirculated Draft SEIR is from September 28 to November 13, 2018. During this time, the Port will accept written comments and hold a public meeting on Thursday, October 25, 2018, at 6 p.m., at the Port of Los Angeles Administration Building, located at 425 S. Palos Verdes Street in San Pedro, to present its findings and provide opportunity for public comment. The meeting will be conducted in English with Spanish translation services available.
