VINCENT THOMAS BRIDGE DECK REPLACEMENT PROJECT

The Port of Los Angeles is Committed to Working with Caltrans and All Stakeholders to Ensure Safety, Smooth Flow of Cargo, Minimal Impacts

About the VTB Deck Replacement Project

Starting in late 2026, Caltrans will replace the Vincent Thomas Bridge deck and modernize other components, necessitating a 16-month closure of State Route 47, which includes the bridge.

Detour routes include enhanced traffic control, enforcement officers and adjusted signal timing. Caltrans is widely communicating a robust Traffic Management Plan.

The Port of Los Angeles is committed to working with Caltrans, residents, terminal operators, the trucking community and the work force to ensure minimal impacts, safety and the smooth flow of cargo. No other port in the nation has more experience maintaining port operations while building world-class infrastructure projects -- and this project is no different.

Drayage Trucks

Only 8% of port complex drayage truck traffic travels on the Vincent Thomas Bridge. Local detours due to bridge closures may add some extra time for truck drivers.
