Civil Rights at the Port of Los Angeles


 
The Port of Los Angeles is committed to a policy of non-discrimination in the conduct of its business and in the administration of its programs and activities. The Port of Los Angeles does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, disability, age, sex, religion, or any other federally protected category as indicated by Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), as amended. The Port of Los Angeles does not intimidate or retaliate against any individual or group because they have exercised their rights to participate in actions protected by (or oppose actions prohibited by) non-discrimination laws.

The Port of Los Angeles recognizes its responsibilities to its visitors, to the communities in which it operates, and to the society it serves. If you believe that you have been excluded from participation in, denied the benefits of, or subjected to discrimination based on race, color, national origin, disability, age, sex, religion, or any other federally protected category, you may file a complaint with the Port of Los Angeles Non-Discrimination Public Access Coordinator or the ADA Public Access Coordinator, within 180 days of the date of the alleged discrimination, in accordance with Port of Los Angeles complaint procedures.

Port of Los Angeles Discrimination Complaint Process


The Port of Los Angeles does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, disability, age, or sex in administration of its programs or activities, and, the Port of Los Angeles does not intimidate or retaliate against any individual or group because they have exercised their rights to participate in actions protected, or oppose action prohibited, by 40 C.F.R. Parts 5 and 7, or for the purpose of interfering with such rights.
 
Barbara Steelman, Director of Internal Audit, is responsible for coordination of compliance efforts and receipt of inquiries concerning non-discrimination requirements implemented by 40 C.F.R. Parts 5 and 7 (Non-discrimination in Programs or Activities Receiving Federal Assistance from the Environmental Protection Agency), including Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended; Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973; the Age Discrimination Act of 1975; Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972; and Section 13 of the Federal Water Pollution Control Act Amendments of 1972 (hereinafter referred to collectively as the federal non-discrimination laws).

Unlawful Discrimination 


It is unlawful for Port operators and their lessees, tenants, and contractors to discriminate against any person because of race, color, national origin, sex, creed, or disability in public services and employment opportunities. Allegations of discrimination should be promptly reported to the Port Non-Discrimination Public Access Coordinator.

Investigations 


A comprehensive investigation/review will be conducted, and the complainant will receive a letter of findings and determination of the investigation and any applicable resolution.
