ASIA SOCIETY SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA TO HONOR LOS ANGELES HARBOR COMMISSION PRESIDENT JAIME LEE
LOS ANGELES – Sept. 16, 2020 – Los Angeles Harbor Commission President Jaime Lee will be among several local and international leaders honored at the upcoming Asia Society Southern California’s annual gala on September 20. Lee will be receiving the Asia Society’s Urban Visionary Award in recognition of her work benefiting organizations in Los Angeles and the State of California.
“Jaime radiates and defines selfless leadership, and her determination and resilience help lift up our diverse communities, strengthen our workforce, and maintain our port as a global model of sustainability and economic strength,” said Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti. “The Asia Society Southern California made the right call in honoring Jaime Lee for who she is -- a visionary, a leader, and a major force for progress for our city and its people.”
“President Lee exemplifies what true leadership and commitment to the community is, which she shows every day through her leadership at the Port of Los Angeles,” said Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka. “She selflessly gives of her time to so many organizations, so it’s fitting that she would be honored by such a prestigious organization like the Asia Society Southern California.”
In accepting her Urban Visionary Award, Lee will be joined by Mayor Garcetti for a conversation about her involvement in the community and her leadership of the Los Angeles Harbor Commission. Lee was appointed to the Commission by the Mayor in 2018, and then elected board president by her fellow commissioners that same year.
The annual gala—being held virtually this year because of the global health pandemic—recognizes individuals and organizations whose stories epitomize the Asia Society’s mission of building bridges between Asia and the West. In addition to Lee, other featured honorees will include Ambassador Masaharu Kohno - Bridge-Building Visionary; Anne Shih - Art & Culture Visionary; Vivek Ranadivé - Game-Changing Visionary; and Stephen Riady - International Business Visionary.
Other gala participants will include Los Angeles Mayor Garcetti; Golden State Warriors Executive Chairman Peter Guber; Japan House President Yuko Kaifu; and Bower Museum President Peter Keller, among others. The virtual event will be emceed by actress Kara Wang.
In addition to her role on the Los Angeles Harbor Commission, Lee currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of Jamison Realty, Inc. She is also active on a number of advisory boards at her alma mater, the University of Southern California, including the USC Board of Trustees. Over the years, she has held various positions in civic, philanthropic, and industry organizations at the city, state, and community levels. These include the Los Angeles City Employees’ Retirement System Board of Administration; the Industrial Development Authority; the Quality and Productivity Commission; and the California Film Commission. Lee is active in the community as a board member of the Los Angeles Organizing Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games 2028, the Los Angeles World Affairs Council & Town Hall, and the Anderson Munger Family YMCA.
