CONSULATE GENERAL OF JAPAN FACILITATES DONATIONS TO LoVLA FOR COVID-19 RESPONSE
LOS ANGELES – July 1, 2020 – The Port of Los Angeles and Logistics Victory Los Angeles (LoVLA) have received a donation of 10,000 bottles of hand sanitizer from YS Media Agency with the assistance of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) Los Angeles and Nippon Express. Additionally, Toyota Motor North America has donated 1,000 face shields. Both gifts were facilitated by the Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles.
“The City and Port of Los Angeles are grateful to receive these important and timely donations,” said Port of Los Angeles Executive Director and City of Los Angeles Chief Logistics Officer Gene Seroka. “These acts of kindness from the Consulate General of Japan, YS Media, JETRO, Toyota and Nippon Express are a prime example of the power of diplomacy and global partnership in a time of need.”
Japan Consul General Akira Muto worked with YS Media Agency, located in Torrance, to facilitate the donation of hand sanitizer with support from JETRO and free delivery from Nippon Express.
“The Japanese business community has received generous support from the City of Los Angeles and the Port of Los Angeles for a long time and wish to continue this partnership into the future,” said Mr. Yasutaka Asai, Executive Director, JETRO Los Angeles. “JETRO is honored to support and facilitate this ongoing relationship.”
Toyota Motor North America manufactured its donation of 1,000 face shields at its Dallas facility. The Port of Los Angeles has been collaborating with Toyota on a program to demonstrate the viability of fuel cell electric technology with heavy duty trucks operating at the Port.
Items from both donations will become available for distribution through the LoVLA campaign to area hospitals, medical facilities, and frontline workforces.
