PORT OF LOS ANGELES RECEIVES BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AWARD FROM WILMINGTON CHAMBER

Apr. 26, 2024 – The Wilmington Chamber of Commerce has recognized the Port of Los Angeles for its outstanding achievements in business development, including innovation, job creation and infrastructure improvements.

Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka accepted the Chamber’s Business Development Award this week at the organization’s recognition luncheon.

“We are grateful to the residents and businesses of the Wilmington community for their partnership and support of the Port,” said Commission President Lucille Roybal-Allard. “The Port is committed to continuing to build and enhance our community ties with meaningful improvements in the quality of life for the area, as well as enhanced economic opportunities and jobs.”

“The Port is proud to be recognized for our ongoing investments in the Wilmington community, including the $77 million Wilmington Waterfront Promenade we unveiled in February,” said Seroka. “We are very excited to see this momentum continue with the other Wilmington projects on tap, most notably, the upcoming $65 million Avalon Promenade Bridge and Gateway.”

In the nomination for the award, the Chamber cited the Port’s many contributions to the economic and social advancement of Wilmington, noting how the Port’s cargo success has helped fuel both jobs and overall economic opportunity for the community. It praised the Port’s commitment to sustainability and emission-reduction programs through the Clean Air Action Plan, and the Port’s substantial investment over the years in the revitalization of the Wilmington waterfront.

Also honored at the luncheon was the 2024 Woman of the Year, Nancy Kuria, principal of Saints Peter and Paul School, and 2024 Man of the Year, Johnny Walter, transportation director for the Boys and Girls Club of the Los Angeles Harbor.
