PORT OF LOS ANGELES TO HOST VIRTUAL PUBLIC MEETING ON AIR QUALITY MONITORING PROGRAM
Status Update Set for January 11
SAN PEDRO, Calif. — Dec. 28, 2022 — The Port of Los Angeles will host an Air Quality Monitoring Program update on Wednesday, Jan. 11, from 1 to 3 p.m., via Zoom. This public meeting will include a status update on the air monitoring network upgrade and annual air monitoring report.

The Port’s air monitoring program includes a network of four air monitoring stations that measure a comprehensive set of air pollutants within the vicinity of Los Angeles Harbor, including San Pedro, Wilmington and Terminal Island. As part of the program, meteorological monitoring stations operate adjacent to each air monitoring station, to help interpret the air quality data and for use in other Port programs.
In 2021, the Port initiated the upgrade of its air monitoring stations. In 2022, the Port completed the procurement process to upgrade all the air quality and meteorological instrumentation in the program, as well as the data communications systems. Installation of the new instrumentation is in progress and is expected to be completed by March 31.
The Port of Los Angeles has monitored air quality in and around Los Angeles Harbor since 2005. This air quality monitoring program supports the Port’s commitment to improve air quality within the San Pedro Bay port complex under the Clean Air Action Plan (CAAP), by helping to better manage and provide feedback on Port’s air quality improvement efforts.
