Feb. 26, 2025 – There’s an international sailing race on the horizon: SailGP – the most exciting racing on water – gears up to bring the Rolex Los Angeles Sail Grand Prix to the Port of Los Angeles on March 15-16. Taking place on a challenging racecourse out of Berth 46 in the Port’s Outer Harbor on the LA Waterfront, the competition features national sailing teams from around the globe battling it out for the top prize.

“We're excited to welcome back SailGP to the LA Waterfront at the Port of Los Angeles,” said Los Angeles Councilman Tim McOsker. “Our Outer Harbor has proved to be an ideal and dynamic venue for high-speed sailing, making it a world-renowned destination and by far the best Southern California venue for competitive racing and maritime excellence. This event promises a thrilling competition and a truly unforgettable experience for fans, who can also explore our diverse local restaurants and enjoy the many waterfront activities that make the LA Waterfront a premier destination.”

“We are looking forward to once again sponsoring and hosting this prestigious international competition on our own LA Waterfront,” said Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka. “Events and major attractions like these bring both positive attention and economic benefits to our harbor area and the City of Los Angeles. It’s a great way to show off all the transformative development and investment ongoing on the LA Waterfront as well.”

The competition will feature 12 national teams of top athletes—including a U.S. team led by driver Taylor Canfield and Newport Beach native Peter Kinney—racing head-to-head in high-speed, hydrofoiling 50-foot catamarans capable of speeds up to 60 mph. Thousands of spectators are expected to gather at the Outer Harbor Berth 46 racecourse, with the stadium opening each day at 12:45 p.m. and racing getting underway between 2-3:30 p.m.

The Rolex Sail Grand Prix will revive the local community, bringing people together for an impactful, meaningful event. The event will be free to attend for L.A. first responders, and ticketholders will have the option to donate to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation.

“We are thrilled to host the Rolex SailGP Championship -- the most exciting racing on water -- in Los Angeles, marking the start of our U.S. events for this season,” said SailGP CEO Sir Russell Coutts. “SailGP will bring thousands of people together to enjoy its close-to-shore racing and entertainment to make for an unforgettable experience.”

Tickets are on sale now for grandstand seating at Berth 46, along with on-water viewing zones for personal watercraft, offered as “Bring Your Own Boat” (BYOB) ticketing. Visit SailGP.com for more details.

Paid parking will be available at an outdoor fan parking lot located at Berth 55 (at the corner of Miner and 22nd streets in San Pedro). SailGP will be providing free shuttles roundtrip from the parking area to the race stadium.

SailGP first held an event in the Port’s Outer Harbor in 2023, which demonstrated an estimated economic impact of $6.9 million to the City of Los Angeles.

Rolex serves as the title partner of the Los Angeles event and title partner of the Rolex SailGP Championship for the first time this season.
