PORT OF LOS ANGELES TO HOST 11TH ANNUAL LUNAR NEW YEAR FESTIVAL SATURDAY, JAN. 25

LA Civil Rights to Launch ‘Just Say Hello’ Campaign as Part of Event at AltaSea

Jan. 22, 2025 — The Port of Los Angeles will host its 11th Annual Lunar New Year Festival, from 3-7 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 25, at AltaSea at the Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro. The free, family-friendly event will exhibit an array of artistic performances and cultural demonstrations.

The Lunar New Year in 2025 marks the Year of the Snake, a symbol of renewal, growth, and resilience. As Angelenos continue to endure one of the most devastating natural disasters in the City’s history, the spirit of the Lunar New Year aspires to uplift and support the fire victims, first responders, and volunteers.

The event celebrates the people and cultures of Asia through live entertainment, a wishing wall, arts and crafts, and more. Food trucks offering culinary delights will be available for purchase along with carnival-style snacks. Children and adults will enjoy getting up close to roosters, sheep, goats, and pigs in the petting zoo. In honor of the Year of the Snake, a variety of live snakes and other reptiles will also be on hand at the event.

“LA Civil Rights is excited to participate in the Lunar New Year Festival this year and introduce the ‘Just Say Hello’ campaign, which is the next phase of our award-winning ‘LA For All’ initiative,” said City of Los Angeles Civil + Human Rights and Equity Department Executive Director Capri Maddox. “Launching in 11 languages, this campaign encourages Angelenos to break down barriers and foster connections through a simple greeting, ‘Hello,’ to reinforce an ‘LA For Everyone.’ We are grateful to the Port of LA for their support in advancing this historic movement.”

AltaSea is located at 2451 Signal Street, Berth 60, Door 39. Free parking is available at 22nd and Miner streets, and the Downtown San Pedro Red Trolley will offer free shuttle rides to and from AltaSea from 2-8 p.m. For more information, visit portoflosangeles.org.
