PORT OF LOS ANGELES TO HOLD COMMUNITY WORKSHOP ON PROPOSED WILMINGTON YOUTH AQUATIC CENTER
Community Members Invited to Provide Input on Possible Expansion of Wilmington Aquatic Programming
WILMINGTON, Calif. – Feb. 15, 2024 – The Port of Los Angeles will host a community workshop on the proposed development of a Wilmington Youth Aquatic Center, from 5:30-7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 29 at the Wilmington Recreation Center, located at 325 N. Neptune Avenue. The workshop is open to the public with Spanish translation available.
As part of its Public Access Investment Plan (PAIP), the Port has identified Berth 183 on the Wilmington Waterfront as an ideal location for the new Wilmington Youth Aquatic Center, a facility to house the expansion of the Wilmington Youth Sailing Center. Ahead of development, community members are invited to offer input on what they would like to see included in the new facility and its programs.
Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the development team and learn details about the proposed project design.
The PAIP was adopted in 2015 with the goal of developing public use areas on existing Port property. Phase I of the Wilmington Waterfront development project was completed in February 2024 with the grand opening of the Wilmington Waterfront Promenade. Phase II, which includes the Avalon Pedestrian Bridge and Promenade Gateway, is slated to start construction in early 2025.
Those not available to join the workshop in person are encouraged to complete a short project survey by March 14.
