PORT OF LOS ANGELES RELEASES NOTICE OF PREPARATION, INITIAL STUDY FOR SA RECYCLING PERMIT AMENDMENT

SAN PEDRO, Calif. – March 30, 2023 – The Port of Los Angeles has released a Notice of Preparation/Initial Study (NOP/IS) of a Draft Subsequent Environmental Impact Report (EIR) to the Port-certified 1996 Hugo Neu-Proler Lease Renewal EIR for the SA Recycling Amendment to Permit No. 750 Project located at Berths 210-211 on Terminal Island.

The primary objective of the proposed project is to amend existing Permit No. 750 to allow for an additional 10 years of continued operation of the SA Recycling scrap metal recycling facility––without any changes in the use or scope of SA Recycling’s current operation. Hugo Neu-Proler operated scrap metal recycling, processing, and export operations at the Port of Los Angeles from 1962-2007. SA Recycling purchased Hugo Neu-Proler in 2007.

The NOP/IS is available for review on the Port of Los Angeles website at portoflosangeles.org/ceqa. The NOP/IS is intended to solicit feedback, which helps to identify any potential environmental impacts and suggest possible alternatives for the project that can be incorporated into the Draft Subsequent EIR to reduce potential impacts as required under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). The Port will hold a virtual public meeting via Zoom to receive comments on the NOP/IS on Tuesday, April 11 at 5 p.m. No registration is required. Simultaneous Spanish translation services will be provided. More information on how to join the meeting is available at portoflosangeles.org/ceqa.

Written comments on the NOP/IS may be submitted via email to ceqacomments@portla.org or to the following address during the 30-day public review and comment period through Friday, April 28, 2023:
