CATALINA ISLAND

Catalina Sea and Air Terminal

Getting to Catalina Island has never been easier!  Departing from the LA Waterfront's Catalina Sea and Air Terminal is simply the quickest and most direct route to the island - just a one-hour boat trip or a twenty-minute helicopter ride away.

Whether you are heading to Catalina or just looking for a great new lunch spot, with its waterside location, classic Catalina tiles and bistro tables, you will feel like you are already on the island once you enter the beautifully remodeled Mediterranean-style patio of the Catalina Sea and Air Terminal. The original Catalina Sea Plane hangar is the focal point of the terminal, which serves as the passenger terminal building where boat tickets and helicopter tickets can be purchased. While you are there, visit the onsite ATM, use the restroom and even grab a bite to eat at one of the terminal's two delicious reastaurants, and park your car in the secure overnight parking lot.  Enjoy a game of bocci ball, shuffleboard or practice your short game on the putting green while waiting for your lunch order to arrive or your boat to depart. Have something to ship to Catalina?  Avalon Freight Services will send it over on one of their environmentally friendly barges departing daily.

Take some time to explore some of the local attractions along the LA Waterfront while you are in town!

Both depart from the Catalina Sea and Air Terminal, located at Berth 95, just off Harbor Boulevard and Swinford Street.  Over the past decade, Catalina Express has increased its fleet to eight faster ferries and has become one of the first operators in the country to equip all its boats with ride control, which is ideal for passengers prone to seasickness.

Things to do on Catalina Island

Just 22 miles long and 8 miles across, Catalina is made up of two towns, Avalon to the east and Two Harbors to the west. Outside of the two towns is a rugged wilderness with majestic beauty, owned and operated by the Catalina Island Conservancy. The island’s main town of Avalon has a distinctive Mediterranean charm and is well-appointed with original Catalina tiles and Spanish architecture, which nod to the island's rich and colorful history.

Start your a visit to the Catalina Island Museum, where you'll learn about the Island's rich and storied history of movies, collectible Catalina tiles, native inhabitants and learn how it earned its reputation for warm island hospitality. Next, dip in the delicious waters of Descanso Beach, fly overhead on an eco-tour zip line, or view the undersea world from a glass-bottom boat tour—the options are truly endless. Check out the Catalina Express Magazine for local attractions, hotels and dining suggestions.
